The Ionic column is one of the three canonical orders of classical Greek architecture, identified by its paired volute scrolls at the capital, horizontal abacus, and vertically fluted shaft rising from a stepped base. The design is executed as a flat, self-contained metal silhouette with bold, clearly defined outlines.
