Tideway School Drift

A moving shoal is captured as a living current, where dozens of fish turn together in a shared direction and the sea itself is suggested by one sweeping ribbon of flow. The composition reads as unity in motion—an underwater choreography shaped by instinct and tide.

The design is translated into powder coated metal through continuous contour cutting that keeps each fish legible while preserving the interwoven pathways between them. The central wave band is engineered as a strong structural stroke, while the surrounding fish lines remain lighter to create depth and visual lift. The 1.5 cm offset mount heightens the floating shadow effect, allowing the layered swarm and current line to separate into crisp dimensional planes.

Curator’s Note: Schooling is one of the ocean’s most iconic collective behaviors, often understood as a form of natural coordination where movement becomes protection, efficiency, and shared navigation in open water.
